Worlds 2021 postponed to December 28-31
Dear community,
Because of the ongoing global Covid pandemic, the WCA board and the core team have decided to postpone the WCA World Championship to December 28-31, 2021.
We believe that the chances of carrying out the World Championship in July are decreasing. There is a good chance that in July at least some global restrictions caused by the pandemic will still be in force. A championship in December 2021 means a postponement of 5 months. These months could be very crucial as far as the pandemic is concerned, and would make it much more likely that we can have a championship in its own right.
The period between Christmas and New Year is a special period. By starting the championship on December 28th, most participants will be able to be at home with their families for Christmas, and travel immediately afterwards to the Netherlands. New Year’s Eve in Amsterdam is an experience! In the city center there will be music, food and lots of fun all night long. In the upcoming months we will look into the possibilities for a World Championship ‘evening show’ to celebrate New Year’s Eve together.
Because of New Year’s Eve we want to end the award ceremony earlier than initially planned. We will inform you soon about the new competition schedule.
Thanks for your understanding. We hope to see you in 2021 in Amere. Stay safe!
Kind regards,
Hans, Heleen, Ron, Ronald and Sandra
