Almere, considered the youngest and most innovative city in the Netherlands, is located just across the IJmeer from Amsterdam. Almere and cubing have a lot in common. As a city, Almere is only 44 years old; the city was born around the same time as the Rubik’s Cube. Both city and cube are a result of smart thinking and innovation. Both of us became world news. Everybody was talking about the cube, which seemed almost impossible to solve. And at the same time, many people thought it impossible that the Netherlands were making an area of sea habitable and building a large city there. Now 44 years from inception, Almere is a well-established city and the cube has established itself firmly on the world stage.
